About Jiva Studio Yoga Classes

All classes at Jiva are reasonably paced, meaning classes are not too fast, more of a deep and steady, slow flow - Hatha Vinyasa. The intensity of each class is based on students who are attending class, with easier or more advanced modifications given to individual students based on ability. Teachers work on pose break downs as needed to ensure you understand how to perform poses correctly over time.

All of our classes incorporate pranayama, and possibly some light meditation, depending on the teacher. Our teachers are all Yoga Alliance registered and skilled in teaching all abilities of students. Try out different classes to find what feels good to you.

Weekday morning and Sunday classes are energetic and a good workout, with easier or more challenging modifications given based on your ability. Props such as blocks, bolsters, straps and blankets for support may be incorporated, depending on what your instructor is working on with you. Classes incorporate some core work, as this is important for everyone's body - to keep the back supported and the body strong.

Evening classes should be also a nice workout but are a bit slower in pace. Props such as blocks, bolsters, straps and blankets for support may be incorporated, depending on what your instructor is working on with you. Evening classes incorporate some gentle work, as this is important for everyone's body - to keep the back supported and the body strong.

Friday night classes are "restorative Yoga" meaning lots of relaxed, passive holding, often with the use of chairs, blocks, blankets, straps and bolsters. This is a very gentle class led by candlelight, with calming music.

Friday & Saturday mornings are Iyengar Inspired classes on the yoga wall. These classes are led by Suzanne and always cover pranayama, philosophy, often incorporate some flow, and cover yoga with ropes. This way of practice helps to open the body by providing a way to extend, lengthen, twist and backbend deeper with the support of the ropes. Yes, we sometimes hang upside down but this is not mandatory for students. Suzanne will provide other things for you to do if you do not wish to hang or are just not feeling ready. "

"The practice of is not to be rushed. It is to be explored, enjoyed and built over time"

- Suzanne Vian
